Tyson VanSkiver is a cinematographer and documentary filmmaker based in New York City.
He was a writer and editor on the feature length documentary film Blood Brother, which swept the 2013 Sundance Film Festival when it won both the Audience and Grand Jury Awards. In 2017 Tyson was the Cinematographer for “Betting On Trump: Jobs” a short documentary by the Emmy Award winning PBS series, Frontline. In early 2019 Tyson filmed police in Rockford, Il during a severe polar vortex for the prominent documentary series Freethink. His most recent work took him to Pittsburgh, PA where he filmed the pilot for an upcoming HBO documentary series. He is currently in post production on his directorial debut, a feature documentary following dirt track racing in upstate New York.
Tyson’s vérité filmmaking makes it possible for him to work closely with his subjects. His diligent and respectful approach allows him unique access to subcultures and high profile figures, taking audiences directly into these worlds.
His film, documentary, and commercial work has taken him to Ukraine, South Africa, India, Haiti, and Scotland.
